Week 33

Weight gained: 26lbs/12kg
Feeling: Elated and stuffed!
Baby stats: 17.5", just over 4lbs

I'm feeling huge this week! Huge and fabulous!

This past week was filled with great food, great company (we had some visitors from HK and Queensland), and great fun! Originally I wasn't really looking forward to Christmas this year because I thought it'd be lonely and I'd be sad, but this week turned out to be awesome!

This past Saturday Vincent and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. : ) And we got beautiful flowers. Yippee! Vincent gave me the bouquet on the left, and my parents sent us the box on the right. How blessed we are!

Originally Vincent had planned to cook me a nice steak dinner at home, but plans changed due to working all day in preparation for Christmas shoppers. (Also, the night before we filled up on lots of Wagyu beef at the always yummy Rengaya.) We ended up going to one of our fave restaurants Rocket and had a lovely meal together. Then we came home to eat a piece of our wedding cake!

For those that don't know, it's a tradition for married couples to save the top layer of their wedding cake in the freezer for a year, and then share a slice on their 1 year anniversary. My mom told me about this tradition, and she followed it, so we decided to do the same. Since we had two wedding cakes, we had an entire one left so this huge cake had been sitting in our freezer for a whole year. Vincent was worried that it wasn't safe to eat too much since I'm pregnant, so we just shared a bite and tossed the rest. I know... what a waste!

But before it hit the bin, Vincent had a little fun with it.

After cake, it was present time!! Here is Vincent reading his card and me with my gift!! (His gift from me was Seinfeld DVDs, not nearly as creative as his to me.)

A keyboard!!! Each time we go back to HK, I always play some songs on the piano at home just for old time's sake, and Vincent thought it would be nice for me to play some nice melodies to the baby as well as keep me entertained during the days. It's a great keyboard--it has a ton of songs stored inside, can do recordings, teaches you how to play, etc. I don't even know how to use 1/4 of the functions that it has to offer. Needless to say, me = happy!

The next night, we hosted Christmas Eve dinner at our place. The menu was: Spinach soup with Bacon bits and Chives (forgot to take a photo!), Vincent's famous Mushroom Risotto, and Party Poussins (a recipe I saw on one of Nigella's Christmas specials).

What is a poussin, you may ask? It's a spring chicken aka spatchcock. Each person had their own mini chicken to enjoy and they came out really tender. It's the easiest thing to prepare for a small dinner party and also had very little cleanup afterwards. I highly recommend it! For dessert, we had some fruit and gingerbread man cookies! Vincent helped to roll the dough and used a cookie cutter for the first time in his life. He did a fantastic job and they turned out perfectly!

Christmas day was a BBQ lunch next door at Brian and Nat's filled with heaps of goodies:

My hubby--the best goodie of all! (Thanks Jammie for the matching aprons!)

Grilled corn, Spinach and Tomato salad, Potato, Prawn and Egg salad, Pasta salad (all the salads couresy of Chef Nat--all delish!)

Wagyu beef, Bulgogi (Korean BBQ beef), Chicken wings, Sausages

That wasn't all the food, but it was everything I managed to photograph before I couldn't take it any longer and had to dig in. Then last night I was bored and decided to try making Chinese Almond Cookies, which turned out really yummy and just like in the restaurants!

Ok, next entry won't be all about food! I hope everyone spent their holidays with lovely people and in warm arms! : )
